JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville man is behind bars after allegedly infecting his sexual partners with the HIV/AIDS virus.
According to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office police report, Taveres Newsome, 35, was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in 2008. Officers said Newsome did not tell women he was having sex with about his diagnosis.
A woman told police she had sexual relations with Newsome three times since this past October, but said she didn't find out until later about his HIV/AIDS status.
That woman said another woman told her she had contracted the virus from Newsome after having sex with him, the report says. Officers said the second woman told the first woman that Newsome told her in November that he was infected with the virus.
After his arrest at Probation/Parole on New Year's Eve, officers said Newsome denied having sex with the first woman, and said the second woman was aware of his medical condition when she had sex with him.
Newsome is in the Duval County Jail, facing charges of criminal transmission of HIV and sexual intercourse without disclosure of HIV.
He is being held on a $100,006 bond, and will have a hearing on Jan. 23.
