JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man has been charged in a triple shooting that happened on Jan. 9 in the 1900 block of West 25th Street.

Martin Luther King, 33, has been charged with the murder of Andrew Stephens, according to a release from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. King also faces two counts of aggravated battery for shooting two other victims, Steveonte Stephens and Deangelo Bryant, who survived.

"It appears the individuals were in an empty lot, maybe playing cards or playing dominos, when this person walked up and shot at them numerous times and then fled," Sgt. Shawn Coarsey told First Coast News just after the shooting happened.

According to the release, King was wearing a ski mask and carrying an assault rifle. He began shooting at the people in a vacant lot from the opposite side of the street, striking two other houses.

King then fled the scene, getting into a gray or silver vehicle, according to a police report.

JSO was able to identify King through information from witnesses that came forward. Witnesses told police that King believed that Stephens had shot into his wife's grandmother's house on Christmas Day.

The same witness told police that King knew where Stephens was and intended to shoot him, according to the report. King asked the witness to come with him, but declined. He then called the witness again after the shooting.

Another witness, who was fleeing the scene during the shooting, saw King remove his mask and later identified him out of a photo lineup.
