Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration, volunteer events on the First Coast

Here are a list of events going on around the First Coast to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day:

WHAT: Multiple Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service volunteer opportunities through HandsOn Jacksonville:

  • Work to receive, clean and stock donations at Habijax Restore, 5800 Beach Boulevard #101, Jacksonville, 32207 from 9:00 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Help out at Teacher Supply Depot. Open house style, family-friendly projects are available from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., 3108 Lenox Avenue, Jacksonville, 32254
  • Plant an herb garden for Peaches-NA-Basket adult day care center from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 2040 Soutel Drive, Jacksonville, 32208 
  • Organize and stock food donations at Mission House.  9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., 800 Shetter Avenue, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250

WHAT:
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and kickoff of College of Coastal Georgia's partnership with Habitat for Humanity to build two homes.
WHERE: 2491 and 2501 Blain Street, Brunswick, Ga.
WHEN: 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

WHAT: "A Tribute To A King Celebration & Presidential Inaugural Luncheon"
WHERE: Epiphany Baptist Church, 663 S. McDuff Avenue, Jacksonville
WHEN: 11 a.m.
COST: Free and open to the public

WHAT: ACCORD, Inc. screening of "Crossing In St. Augustine," a documentary by Andrew Young Presents about the Civil Rights Movement of St. Augustine. Part of the MLK National Day of Service.
WHERE: Willie Galimore Community Center, 399 Riberia Street, St. Augustine
WHEN: 2 p.m.
COST: Free and open to the public
