JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A building fire temporarily closed Atlantic Boulevard for several hours overnight Saturday while firefighters battled the blaze.
A vacant business complex located at 3434 Atlantic Blvd caught fire shortly after midnight, according to District Chief Andrews White with the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department.
"Station 12, or engine 12 was tied up on another call and another engine discovered the fire and without having engine 12 in service really allowed the fire to get a pretty good headway on us and the structure suffered significant damage pretty much through the whole building," said White.
The fire was brought under control around 3:00 a.m., and the road reopened about an hour later.
Fire investigators have not released any information about what caused the fire.
