JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  What was believed originally to have been a hostage situation, was in fact a standoff between the JSO SWAT team and a resident of Arlington holed up in his home.

According to JSO Lt. Steve Mullen, the situation ended early Sunday morning without injuries when officers took the 55 year old male resident into custody.  The suspect's name and the specific address of his home has not been released.

At approximately 7pm Saturday evening, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office received a call about an argument between a husband and wife.  An alleged threat was made by the husband that included reference to a firearm, according to Lt. Mullen, and as a result officers were dispatched to the home in the 300 block of West Tidewater Circle.  At the time the officers arrived, the suspect's wife and children had already fled the home.

Lt. Mullen reported that officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, who was uncooperative and slammed the door.  JSO then called the SWAT team to the scene.

At approximately 1:45am the SWAT team began firing what became an approximate total of 30 shots of tear gas into the home, based on the count of First Coast News reporters on the scene.

Following the barrage of tear gas, officers were able to enter the home and apprehend the suspect.   No injuries were reported.  The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault and battery domestic, according to Lt. Mullen.

Following the apprehension of the suspect, nieghbors were allowed to return to their homes and JSO officers cleared the scene.
