Homeless man allegedly killed his drinking buddy

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A fight between two homeless men ended with one man dead and the other claiming he doesn't remember what happened.

Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, along with a crew from Jacksonville Fire Rescue, responded to reports of an unresponsive man behind a Laundromat on Beach Blvd., according to police reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

When JSO arrived they found the victim, Earl Griffin, allegedly bleeding and unresponsive, the reports detail. Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charles Alvin Reeder, 40, was also allegedly present at the scene, according to the reports. Reeder was described in one report as, "belligerent and rambling," with minor cuts on his face, hands and arms.

According to the reports, Reeder allegedly admitted to "hanging out" with Griffin behind the Laundromat, prior to his death, drinking Canadian Whiskey. Reeder also allegedly claimed that he and Griffin could have gotten into a fight, but does not remember.

Griffin's death was determined to have been caused by multiple sharp force injuries to the head and neck, the reports state.

Reeder also allegedly added that if something happened to Griffin he did it, but it was probably an accident, one report detailed.

Reeder has been charged with murder and is currently being held without bond in the Duval County Jail.
