JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A bomb squad with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a methamphetamine lab at storage facility on Mayport Road.

Management at the Pan-Am storage complex in the 2000 block of Mayport Road called police around 8 a.m. Tuesday due to a suspicious person sleeping in a storage unit, according to Atlantic Beach Police Department Commander Tiffany Layson.

Sleeping in storage units is prohibited by Pan-Am. The individual found in the unit was 34-year-old Lawrence Nye, who had an active arrest warrant for Violation of Probation.

While speaking with Nye, officers observed what they believed to be components of a meth lab inside the storage unit.

A perimeter was cordoned off surrounding the storage area and police asked local residents to stay within their homes to maintain public safety.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office narcotics detectives with JFRD and Bomb Squad disassembled the lab and decontaminated the scene.

Lawrence Nye was charged a first degree felony, manufacturing methamphetamine. Additionally, he was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
