ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - Two died and three were injured after the driver of an SUV lost control and crashed into a thicket of trees in Bakersville Thursday morning.
A 2000 Chevy Blazer was traveling west on County Road 208 when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing the driver to lose control of the SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The vehicle traveled crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and spun out before slamming into a grouping of trees.
The force of the collision ejected four of the vehicles five occupants as it rolled over several times. The SUV then collided with a fence deflecting it back onto the roadway.
Troopers have been unable to identify who the driver was at this point of the investigation.
Alyssa Nearbin, 20, and Joey Stevens, 24, both died in the accident.
Dylan Charles, 21, and Erin Aderhold, 18, were transported to Shands Jacksonville both with critical injuries, and Hosston Bishop, 21, was transported to Flagler Hospital with only minor injuries.
