St. Johns County, Fla. -- Two people are dead, the result of a crash on Thursday afternoon within a work zone on Interstate 95 in St. Johns County.

David Wilkinson, 61, from Virginia, was driving a 2011 GMC Sierra on Northbound Interstate 95 at mile marker 238, within a work zone. He and passenger Mary Shaffer, 61, from Tennessee were both killed when their vehicle was struck by a motor home driven by Wayne Robbins of Massachusetts, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP release states that shortly after entering the work zone, Robbins swerved his motor home to avoid stopped traffic. Simultaneously, Wilkinson entered the zone in front of the motor home and came to a stop.

Unable to stop, Robbins' motor home rear ended the Sierra which was forced into the center median and struck the guardrail.

Robbins and his passenger Cynthia Robbins were not injured in the crash.
