JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man wielding a machete vandalized several homes on an Arlington street and caused several thousand dollars in damage before being arrested.

It was around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening when when witnesses told police they saw 38 year old Luis Alicea running down Heidi Road carrying a machete and yelling.

"He said he wanted to die, he said just kill me, just kill me!," said witness Ricky Bogert.

He broke windows in two homes and one car, that is when Bogert saw him in the bushes.

Bogert and his son were going over there to get him when "he got up and came out, he had a machete, he chased me and my son back to the house. I went in and got a baseball bat."

It was then Bogert says the suspect went into the home of Alice Vaccaro. She says she woke to the sound of broken glass and heard someone run upstairs. She ran outside.

"Imagine someone breaking in your house when you are there, a bit scary, but experiencing it, .. I think I was more scared when I got to Jean's house, my heart rate doubled."

Alicea was upstairs in the house 45 minutes, vandalizing the bathroom and the clothes closet.

"He  ripped the toilet out of our bathroom, ripped the toilet paper holder off , unclothed in our room, and then bolted out of the second story bathroom window."

"When he jumped out and hit his head and it did not hurt him, I knew he was on something," said Bogert.  Police say he was on some kind of psychotic drug. He was taken to Shands for treatment of several lacerations on his wrist, arms and legs. He is charged with burglary and criminal mischief.

Vaccaro says the water was running for two hours in the house before they could get it turned off. There was three inches of water in the kitchen, the ceiling in the kitchen is torn out.  The man bled while in the house.

Vaccaro and Carol Hutto, who also resides at the home, are staying with a friend while repairs are being made to the home.
