PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- A white powdery substance was found in an envelope at the Putnam County Courthouse Thursday afternoon.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office responded to the Putnam County Courthouse around 12:50 p.m. in reference to a suspicious package, according to a release from the Putnam County Sheriff's County.
A preliminary investigation revealed that an envelope containing a white, powdery substance was located on the lower level of the Courthouse. For precautionary reasons, the lower level of the Courthouse was evacuated and no one was permitted to enter the building.
The Putman County Fire Department, along with their Hazmat Team conducted a presumptive field test of the substance.
According to officials, the substance did not appear to be an active biological agent.
The substance was collected and taken to the Department of Health Laboratory in Jacksonville, Florida.
No one was injured during the incident.
