Woman sexually assaulted outside Jacksonville Beach bars; suspect's bond set

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A sexual assault outside a popular Jacksonville Beach bar district sent a woman to the hospital.

The victim was allegedly attacked and sexually assaulted in the 100 block of 1st Avenue North at 3:45 a.m. Friday, according to a release from the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.

A suspect, Edward Andrew Marshall-Byrd Jr., was located a block away following the attack and was allegedly identified by the victim as her attacker. Several witnesses also identified the alleged suspect, the release detailed.

Marshall-Byrd, 21, is currently serving with the U.S. Navy, according to the JBPD. According to Chief William Townsend with the US Navy, Marshall-Byrd is an E2 seaman apprentice aboard the USS Halyburton and has been in the Navy for only a year.

The victim was transported to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center where she is in stable condition.

Marshall-Byrd has been charged with sexual battery with great bodily injury and aggravated battery.

Marshall-Byrd's bond for sexual battery was set at none and the bond for aggravated battery was set at $197,003, Saturday morning.
