JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There are a number of large scale events coming to the Jacksonville area in the near future. The question -- are they going to tighten security after the Boston Marathon explosions?

The event that will probably get the most exposure is The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass next month. First Coast News spoke with the general manager at TPC. He said he was "horrified" to hear what happened in Boston. He referred us to the PGA.

A PGA spokesperson said security procedures are confidential, but they are confidant in their security policies.

We are also in contact with the City of Jacksonville. There are many large scale events at their facilities. Singer Carrie Underwood is scheduled to perform at the Jacksonville Arena April 20th.

There are also Sharks games and a beer festival at the arena. Mayor Alvin Brown says his team is already assessing security a number of events, including one for inventors and business people called One Spark, which is in downtown later this week.

Mayor Brown released this statement via e-mail: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the people of Boston. I have directed our emergency management team to coordinate with federal and state authorities to actively monitor and assess the situation in Boston. We had already engaged public safety agencies to ensure a safe One Spark experience, and I have ordered our team to review those preparations and make any enhancements necessary to protect the safety of all involved."

There's a rock concert planned for Metropolitan Park later this month. We have a call into the radio group that is promoting the show to find out more about their security plans.
