ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The area near the Bridge of Lions usually floods when the First Coast gets a lot of rain.
The sea wall is under construction to help alleviate flooding issues, but still some areas may experience flooding in downtown St. Augustine.
Prior to an emergency such as a hurricane or flooding, those in St. Johns County with special needs need to register with the Emergency Operations Center.
Registering allows the county to plan for special needs shelters and get you the help you might need in the event of a hurricane.
Also -- new this year -- St. Johns County has hurricane preparedness brochures and information in braille.
The county also has a Twitter account that will be used to help communicate with people if a hurricane is coming. The handle is @StJohnsEOC. St. Johns County also uses the Code Red system (a robo call program) to contact residents during an evacuation.
