TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- People who play the lottery now have another ticket option.

Florida starts selling Mega Millions tickets Wednesday morning. The state kicks off the new addition at a 7-Eleven in Fort Myers.

Florida is the one of the last states to join the Mega Millions which had a record lottery pay out last year. Players win by matching the five white ball numbers (1-56) and the golden Mega Ball number.

People are questioning how the sales will impact other lottery ticket games.

Lottery officials say that adding the Mega Millions will generate additional money for the state, even though in the past there have been fears that adding additional games would erode sales of current games.

Last summer the Florida Lottery wrapped up the most financially successful year in its history.

Overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 40, the odds of winning the jackpot are much worse: 1 in 176 million.

Players should pick numbers important to them, but shouldn't stick to just dates. Mega Millions numbers go up to 56, dates go up to 31. Buying more tickets does increases chances of winning, but every ticket has the same chances of winning.

Don't repeat the same set of numbers. Chances of winning are proportional to the number of tickets bought.

There is one set of numbers that's been called twice in Mega Millions history... 11, 14, 18, 33, 48.
