COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, two men were arrested on Wednesday for burglary and allegedly stealing several firearms.

The victim reported to CCSO that her home was burglarized and several items of value, including firearms, were stolen on May 6.

According to the release, the victim received information that identified one of the suspects that allegedly robbed her home, and the information was reported to Deputy Sheriff Charles Vaughn. The release did not detail how the victim received this information.

The deputy attempted to make contact with one of the suspects, identified as Scott Phillips, at his home.

When the Deputy Vaughn arrived, he saw Phillips running away from the residence carrying a rifle case. The deputy apprehended Phillips a short distance away and took him into custody. Several of the stolen firearms were recovered.

Later on the same day, another suspect was identified as Curtis Handy. The deputies searched his home and discovered more firearms that were stolen during the burglary on May 6. Handy was not at home during the search.

Handy returned home and discovered the guns were gone. He then called CCSO to report his guns were stolen.

Deputies went back to the residence and took Handy into custody.

Both Handy and Phillips were booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility.

The stolen items were returned to their lawful owner.
