JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A standoff with an attempted murder suspect ended peacefully Friday after tear gas drove him out of an Arlington apartment, according to our news partner, The Florida Times-Union.

On Friday, police tried to serve Edward Lamont Hicks, 39, with a warrant about 5 a.m. at the Regency Square Apartments according to Lieutenant Mike Beckman.

SWAT was out by the Sheriff's Office when Hicks did not comply with orders to come out.

After failed negotiation attempts, Beckmann said they deployed tear gas in the apartment and then Hicks finally came out around 2 p.m.

According to the T-U, during the standoff, family members complained that officers were not letting them talk to Hicks and encourage him to come out. Beckmann said they did record the family members' voices and played it over the bull horn but it had no effect. It's not in the policy to allow family members in close proximity, said Becham.

Hicks had a warrant out for his arrest in connection to a shooting on May 7 at Canterbury Gardens Apartments, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office news release. Tyler Charles Alexander, 27, was shot multiple times and is in life-threatening condition.

Also charged in the case is Samson Ahmad Woods, 32.
