JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 35-year-old man is dead after being involved in a two-vehicle crash at the northend of Interstate 295 early Sunday morning according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Marcus Dewayne James of Mobile, Alabama, along with several passengers was traveling northbound on I-295 in the outside lane around 12:25 a.m.
James attempted to merge from the outside lane to go northbound on I-95. He ended up driving directly in front of a Chevrolet van driven by 53-year-old Lloyd Dean Brown.
Brown's van hit the left driver's side of James' GMC Yukon.
FHP said James was transported to UF Health Jacksonville where he was pronounced dead.
Two passengers in the SUV, Danielle N. James, 35, and Llawana M. Scott, 45, also of Mobile were transported to UF Health with minor injuries.
There were three children that were also in the SUV ranging from ages 2 through 8, but had no injuries according to FHP.
Brown, the driver of the van had minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.
Everyone involved in this incident was wearing a seatbelt.
