Eric E. Niemi, 42 - charged with second degree murder and one count of grand theft auto.
PALM COAST, Fla. -- A 76-year-old Palm Coast man was killed after a conflict with his tenant over living arrangements and rent according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
The details from a release by FCSO said that Eric E. Niemi, 42, was arrested and charged with second degree murder in the death of Leonard Leon Lynn early Sunday morning.
Lynn's body was discovered in a bedroom of his home by police after family members became concerned that they were unable to reach him.
Police were called to the home around 5:57 p.m. on Saturday to check on Lynn and when the deputies arrived they were not able to come in contact with anyone at Lynn's residence.
Deputies then went back to Lynn's house around 9:19 p.m. and met with a relative who let the deputies in his home and that's when Lynn's body was discovered.
The detectives believed that he was killed sometime on Wednesday and according to the Medical Examiner, Lynn's death was a result of blunt trauma.
Deputies were able to locate Niemi a short time later with Lynn's car in his possession and after questioning by detectives, Niemi confessed to the crime.
In addition to being charged for second degree murder, Niemi was charged with one count of grand theft auto.
Niemi is being held at the Flagler County Detention Facility where he was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday morning.
"This was a tragic and senseless death. Hopefully the quick resolution of this case will allow Mr. Lynn's family to start the healing process," said Sheriff James L. Manfre.
