ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A motorcyclist involved in a crash Saturday on the eastside of the Shands Bridge at S. R. 16 has been identified.
Carl Edward Wilkes of Keystone Heights, was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Jacksonville with possible life threatening injuries, following the crash, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash involving a vehicle and motorcycle late Saturday morning.
According to a release from the SJCSO, a vehicle that was heading eastbound slowed down to make a left turn into the fishing area in the northeast side of the bridge. Wilkes was coming up behind the vehicle also eastbound and allegedly did not slow down and rear ended the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Maurice V. Robinson, also of Keystone Heights and was not injured.
Charges are pending completion of the investigation.
