With Tropical Storm Andrea moving toward landfall at brisk 15 mile-per-hour clip, Gov. Rick Scott told reporters the storm has spawned eight tornadoes warnings, especially along the Florida Peninsula. He asked the public to look out for tornado warnings and follow other weather alerts as the storm moves closer to land.

"The biggest problem we're going to have right now is this risk of tornadoes," he said.

Andrea is expected to bring a 3- to 5- foot storm surge around Cedar Key and pass through the state late tonight.

Scott, headed to an event in Naples, bemoaned federal furloughs affecting the U.S. National Guard (a product of the budget cuts known as sequestration). He said the furloughs could hamper the state's ability to respond to a storm.

Headed to an event in Naples, Scott said the first named storm of the season should serve as a wake-up call for people who have not yet stocked up on three days' worth of nonperishable food and water.

"Take this as a precursor, as a reminder: Get ready," he said.
