JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville mother described as the "cool mom" in one Arlington neighborhood is behind bars charged engaging in sexual activity with a minor and encouraging sex among minors.
Cherelyn "Cher" McDonald, 40, was arrested Wednesday night and appeared in court facing six felony charges of lewd and lascivious battery and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child.
"I did not suspect a thing," said the mother of one of the alleged victims, a teenage boy. The woman who did not want to be identified said McDonald was the "cool mom" as she invited boys to be part of family outings.
The mom says she became aware of something being wrong when a girl friend said her teenage son was getting text messages from McDonald.
Sex crime detectives according to police reports interviewed the victims with notations of "alcohol" and "sex."
No one answered the door of the woman's Arlington home. Neighbors say McDonald had two children.
One of the moms who called police said she made the call after questioning her son.
The mom said she learned a lot.
"It start with beer, alcohol. She would serve alcohol to the minors," said the mother.
"They played beer pong, things would get loose and silly and crazy. There began to be sexual play. It really expanded from there," she said.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.
