JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Several recorded phone calls around the area are informing victims that they overpaid taxes, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office press release.
The scammers offer to let the victims choose a refund through wire transfer or donate the overpayment to the "Save the Animals Foundation".
The report said the recording did not provide an opportunity to speak to a live person. However, the would-be victim did not transfer or wire any money and instead called police.
JSO is informing the public that this scam may be a way to obtain your personal information.
