JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A mom who says her teenage son was a victim of an Arlington mother charged with encouraging minors to engage in sexual activity describes the home as a "party house."
Cherelyn "Cher" McDonald, 40, was arrested Wednesday night following complaints by at least two mothers who suspected their teenage sons were victims.
The heavily redacted police report makes note of "sex" and "alcohol" consumption at the Arlington home.
Neighbors say McDonald had two children living with her, a boy and girl with the oldest a teenager.
The Department of Children and Families has joined the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
DCF spokesman John Harrell says the mother's two children have been placed with family members while the Child Protection Team works to determine more about the home environment.
"You've got so many questionable decisions that were apparently made by a parent," said Harrell in noting this case is unusual and something investigators don't see that often.
One mom says she suspected something was wrong when she overheard a conversation between her son and McDonald. The mom who did not want to be identified said she followed up by checking text messages. She said that prompted her to call police.
Another mom who also did not want to be identified because her son was a frequent visitor to the McDonald home called police too.
"He did not realize he was a victim. That was the crazy thing," said the mom.
"She (McDonald) did such a good job of grooming these boys. For months she would take them out to dinner and pay for their meals on a constant basis," said this mother.
McDonald according to JSO inmate information remains in jail following a hearing on Thursday .
