JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- This weekend, hundreds gathered to pay their final respects to a young man who made quite a mark on the First Coast community.
JT Townsend's funeral was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the University of North Florida. The public was allowed to pay their respects inside the UNF Arena starting at 9 a.m.
The 26-year-old passed away early Wednesday morning, nine years after being paralyzed at his high school football game.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to his foundation, the JT Townsend Foundation. The foundation helps disabled children and adults in Northeast Florida.
