Jacksonville Beach Mayor asked businesses not to participate in Fourth of July pub crawl

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Jacksonville Beach businesses asked by major not to participate in the July 4th pub crawl.

Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham has sent a letter to owner following the brawl during Memorial Day weekend.

The letter was read at last night's council meeting, he said the pub crawl being organized by a local promotion group, 904 Happy hour. The event is directly against the family-friendly environment he wants to create for visitors.

Jacksonville Beach is planning a family celebration Independence Day and the mayor wants to keep the emphasis on family.

The mayor said if the crowds turn ugly and create problems on the Fourth of July celebration, the event will not occur next year.
