JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Roderick Borisade is a poet, musician, writer, motivational speaker and our Hero Next Door.
Borisade is the founder of the Eric's Life Foundation, which supports several local charities.
He decided to start the foundation after his brother died from brain cancer in 1996.
Borisade said he and his brother's mom was on drugs and they grew up poor.
The two were bounced from house to house, a situation his older brother Eric Harvey had a hard time understanding.
Borisade said Eric was a troubled kid but someone who had a great heart.
Borisade admits he used to fight and steal, but that all came to a halt after his brother Eric's death.
While watching a video of the late rapper Tupac Shakur, "I AIN'T MADE AT YOU," in 1996, Borisade said he had a revelation.
He decided to change and came up with the idea of starting a local charity that would help others.
He now goes around the country sharing his life's journey, he does motivational speaking and hosts an "All-White Party" every year in Jacksonville to raise money the for the Eric's Life Foundation.
