LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A shooting in Lake City killed one and left another seriously injured.
Officers with the Lake City Police Department responded to Shands Lakeshore Hospital early Thursday morning after two gunshot victims arrived at the emergency room, according to a release from teh Lake City Police Department.
The victims were identified as 48-year-old Elijah D. Dunning and 20-year-old Christopher T. McConnell.
Further investigation determined an altercation broke out around 1:45 a.m. on the 700 block of NW Alma Avenue.
According to statements obtained by the LCPD, Dunning and McConnell were seated in a vehicle outside the above address. "An unknown subject approached the vehicle and, for unknown reasons, fired several shots into it."
Dunning drove himself and McConnell to Lake Shore Hospital, but by the time they arrived McConell was unresponsive. According to the LCPD, McConnell succumbed to his gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Dunning was flown to the Shands Trauma Center in Gainesville.
Investigators determined the shooting suspect fled the area on foot.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
