Natalie Parker speaks out about the hit and run accident that killed her 2-year-old daughter.
2-year-old Janya Solomon was killed in a hit and run at Harold House Apartments on Sunday.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police are still searching for the suspect in a hit-and-run that killed a 2-year-old girl Sunday at Harold House Apartments on the Southside.
"He just kept going and left my baby there like trash," said Natalie Parker, the toddler's mother.
Parker said around 5 p.m. Sunday, she walked into her apartment to set down her groceries and her 10-month-old baby.
"My eight-year-old came running in and said my baby just got hit by a car," said Parker.
Police have identified the suspect as 34-year-old Serdarus Migel Scott. Duval County Clerk of Court documents show Scott was charged with Grand Theft Auto in 1998 and has several traffic offenses, including driving while his license was revoked.
Police say Scott was traveling through the apartment complex and stopped the car to talk to someone. They say the child walked in front of the car and the driver accelerated, hit 2-year-old Janya Solomon, and then got out of the car. Police say the passenger got in the driver's seat and drove away, but the driver also got back in the car and fled the scene.
"She wasn't left unattended or anything like that. It was so many grown people out here and they telling him 'stop, you hit that baby.' They also said he got out the car and looked at my baby, jumped back in the car and left," said Parker.
Parker is now mourning the loss of her baby girl. Residents at the apartment complex have made a memorial near the accident scene and have set down teddy bears, flowers and candles in memory of little Janya.
"Everybody out here loved her. She was just a gorgeous baby," said Parker.
Police found the vehicle involved in the accident at Leigh Meadows Apartments on Sunbeam Road. Anyone with information on the suspect's location is asked to call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
