JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The suspect wanted for the armed robbery of a CVS pharmacy on Monday was shot by police after a car crash and a foot pursuit on Tuesday.
After a warrant was issued for the suspect who police have not yet identified, JSO SWAT began conducting surveillance on the man at the Magnolia Terrace apartments, according to Chief Annie Smith.
SWAT team members began to follow the suspect when he left the apartment complex as a passenger in a gold Volvo. 'Several' other people including the driver were also in the vehicle, according to Smith.
When SWAT members activated the lights on their undercover SUV, the driver did not pull over.
While attempting to evade JSO, the driver rammed the Volvo into the SUV when leaving the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station at the corner of San Juan Avenue and Jammes Road around 3 p.m.
After colliding with the SUV, the suspect jumped out of the backseat of the Volvo clutching a black bag and took off on foot towards a nearby restaurant.
JSO followed and told the suspect to surrender.
The suspect refused to surrender and entered the nearby Mr. Dragon restaurant, Smith said.
Officers continued to pursue the suspect into the restaurant. While inside, the suspect turned around with one hand inside the black bag and an officer fired two shots and struck the suspect.
The suspect was taken to UF Health at Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries.
The lone restaurant employee and all JSO officers involved were unharmed.
The other passengers in the Volvo were detained for questioning by JSO.
JSO is looking into the possibility of this suspect being the same person involved in the Mojo No. 4 fatal shooting on Monday.
