ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A 16-year-old is recovering after he was possibly bitten by a shark.
The teen and his mother were staying near Butler Beach in St. Augustine. The two went to the beach and while in the water, the teen was bitten by something, according to a report from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
The teen was swimming about 150 feet from the sand, the report detailed, when he felt something bite and pull his right leg down and back.
Deputies on scene described the bite as four cuts on the back calf area of the teen's leg, in the shape of a half circle. The cuts were three inches long and two were bleeding.
St. Johns County Fire Rescue also responded to the attack in the water and advised the teen he would need stitches.
The teen did not see a shark when he was bit, but both the SJCSO and SJCFR believe the bite was caused by a small unknown shark.
