Attorneys for a Jacksonville man accused of fatally stabbing a Chicago Bears fan say he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

They told Circuit Judge Suzanne Bass on Thursday that the disorder is one of the factors that led 28-year-old Matthew Reid Hinson to kill William "Chris" Pettry before a Jaguars-Bears game in 2012.

Assistant Public Defender Kate Bedell says Hinson also suffers from alcohol abuse.

The Florida Times-Union reports prosecutors are skeptical and asked the judge if they can have a doctor examine Hinson.

Hinson pleaded guilty in May to second-degree murder and faces 20 years to life in prison. He could get a lesser sentence if the judge allows alcohol abuse and PTSD as mitigating factors in Pettry's stabbing.

Pettry was visiting from Lake Villa, Ill., near Chicago.
