ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- The Coast Guard helped 3 boaters whose ship was sinking 20 miles off the coast of St. Augustine Saturday.
The boaters, all wearing life jackets, were using buckets to bail water out of their recreational vessel, Attitude, while they waited for responders, according to the Coast Guard.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville were notified the mariners were in trouble when they used their VHF-FM marine radio to call for help at 9:53 a.m.
A boat crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat - Medium from Station Mayport in Atlantic Beach, Fla., arrived on scene and used a dewatering pump to get the flooding under control.
The Coast Guardsmen towed the boat to Villano Boat Ramp in St. Augustine. All aboard are safe.
