MIDDLEBURG, Fla -- A teen has died after falling 50-feet from a tree in Clay County Tuesday.
Blake Bryant, 14, of Palatka fell after he accidentally cut through his safety harness while working for John Wilkes Tree Service in Middleburg, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Bryant climbed a tree on the Middleburg property and was cutting off a section around 10:15 a.m. when the accident occurred.
According to CCSO, he was flown by helicopter to Shands Jacksonville where he was pronounced dead at 12:10 p.m.
Internal injuries caused by the fall proved to be fatal.
Officials from OSHA and the Dept. of Labor were notified and sent officials to the scene to conduct and investigation, according to CCSO.
Detectives with the CCSO were told that the teen was assisting on the project but does not normally work for this company.
The investigation is ongoing.
