Jacksonville teen shot in head while riding bike dies

UPDATE, 8/20/13: 18-year-old Darryl Arnold died as a result of his injuries, according to JSO Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A teen is in critical condition after being shot in the head while riding his bike home.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday morning and found Darryl Dewayne Arnold, 18, had been shot in the 3800 block of Spires Avenue, according to Sgt. Michael Paul with JSO homicide.

Arnold was riding his bike home when at least one shot was fired, striking the teen in the head.

Arnold was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition.

At this point in the investigation, JSO does not have a suspect in custody or a suspect description, but witnesses are being interviewed.

Sgt. Paul encouraged people in the neighborhood to call JSO with any tips or information they might have related to the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
