LAKE BUTLER, Fla. -- As of Monday the Union County Sheriff's Office feels they are closer to understanding the reasoning behind a deadly mass shooting.
"We get closer every day," said Lt. Lyn Williams.
But Williams also cautioned that the department might truly never know the exact motive behind the tragedy.
He said, "It could be something we never find out."
Authorities said previously that Hubert Allen Jr., 72, shot four men in Lake Butler on Saturday before committing suicide.
Marvin Pritchett, 80, and Rolando Gonzalez Delgado, 28, died from their injuries.
Lewis Mabrey, 66, and David Griffis, 45, were both hospitalized in Gainesville.
Lt. Williams said Griffis remained in critical condition as of Monday morning, but that Mabrey is expected home soon.
Pritchett ran a trucking company that employs hundreds of people in Lake Butler.
Allen worked there for roughly 40 years until recently.
