UPDATE, 9/5/13: Eight-year-old drowning victim died Thursday afternoon, according to a release from JSO Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda.

Original story from 9/2/13:

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An 8-year-old girl remains in critical condition at Wolfson Children's Hospital after she nearly drowned Monday.

The girl was swimming in a community pool near the 12000 block of Brians Creek Dr., according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO says there were no lifeguards on duty.

According to a JSO police report, the victim and her sister went to the pool along with a witness and her children. All the children were playing at the shallow end of the pool when a child said the victim threw up underwater and wasn't moving.

The witness pulled the girl out of the pool and administered CPR until officials arrived

Another witness overhead the victim say she did not know how to swim. He didn't think anything of it because all the children were playing together in the pool, the police report said.

The pool has a sign that reads "No Lifeguards are on Duty".

JSO is continuing to investigate the incident and no charges have been filed at this time.
