JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man has been charged with murder after allegedly fatally stabbing another man during an argument over a pit bull on Sunday.
At first, Tyehimba Yazid Fort, 32, admitted arguing with Joseph Micah Primo, 25, at the Avesta Baymeadows apartments, but denied stabbing him, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrest report.
Fort later admitted that he left an apartment with a knife "and used it to cut the victim several times," the report detailed.
Primo was initially transported to UF Health at Jacksonville for his injuries and was later pronounced dead.
JSO Lt. Rob Schoonover said the argument stemmed from a pit bull that Primo gave to Fort, which Fort then gave to someone else.
When officers initially responded to the apartment complex, where Primo was a resident, one officer observed a Gator City Taxi Cab leaving the complex.
The officer stopped the taxi cab and found Fort in the back seat, then took him into custody for questioning.
Fort, who is not eligible for bond, is also charged with possession of not more than three grams of synthetic marijuana, according to the JSO Inmate Information Search.
