JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It's a new way of learning; breaking down complex subjects in online videos. One local teacher has created his own budding online math academy.

From his Mandarin High classroom behind a small camera propped up on a desk, Brian McLogan reaches students both young and old all across the globe. He now has around 4,150 subscribers, on his YouTube page. And has posted nearly 4,000 videos. In the videos, he breaks down the ins and outs of a subject many find to be complex.

"When I took pre-calculus a lot of the class would move pretty fast," said 12th grader John Arbelaez. "So sometimes I would be lost."

He was a student of McLogan's last year. Arbelaez may no longer be in McLogan's class but thanks to the online math tutorial, Arbelaez said he'll likely always be his pupil.

"I have been able to expand my classroom to a whole bunch of students all over the world," said McLogan.

But despite the thousands of hits on his page, McLogan says he still enjoys interacting with the small group of kids he serves at the high school.

"That's really the relationship that has the most meaning," said McLogan. "When you see their struggles and you're able to help them out."

"It's really helpful if you have a computer or a smart phone," said Arbelaez. "You can just check it out really quickly."

McLogan's goal is to create 10,000 online math videos. Right now, he has nearly 4,000. He said ultimately, he would like to design a program that other teachers can use in their own classrooms.
