HAWTHORNE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities in north Florida are looking for thieves who stole two school buses from a fenced-in area near Hawthorne High School.

Alachua County Public Schools employees noticed the buses missing when they arrived at the bus compound Monday morning.

Alachua County Sheriff's spokesman Todd Kelly told the Gainesville Sun the buses are worth about $90,000 each. He says the burglars cut through the fence and somehow started the vehicles, noting that keys aren't left in the buses.

Kelly told the Sun that thieves could have stolen the buses for any number of reasons, but says they could be cutting them into parts for shipment overseas. He notes that two Flagler County buses were stolen in a similar fashion on July 17.

He asks anyone with information to contact authorities.
