CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. -- A Savannah woman who pleaded guilty to stealing tens of thousands of dollars from an elderly couple has been sentenced to 51 months in prison.
Department of Justice Southern District of Georgia spokesman James Durham says Janeen Lynette Davis, 33, worked as a caregiver for the elderly couple.
As a result, Davis had access to the couple's finances and in one year's time, Davis embezzled almost $70,000 from their bank accounts.
"This defendant took advantage of an elderly couple who, at this point in their lives, should be enjoying the fruits of their years of hard work. The United States Attorney's Office and its law enforcement partners will aggressively investigate and pursue charges against those who seek to take advantage of the vulnerable members of our society, " said United States Attorney Edward J. Tarver.
Durham said that Davis has a lengthy criminal history and has been convicted of numerous other financial crimes across the country.
In addition to her prison sentence, Davis was ordered to pay restitution and to serve five years of supervised release once she gets out of prison.
