Carjacking, robbery suspect in custody

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man is behind bars for allegedly robbing a couple at gunpoint and stealing their car.

Trinad Xavier Thomas, 24, is being charged with armed robbery, carjacking with a firearm and possession of a weapon or firearm by a convicted felon after he allegedly held up two people outside a bar early Thursday morning.

The robbery occurred in the 3200 block of Roosevelt Boulevard, according to JSO Sgt. Zona, at the Island Bar.

Thomas allegedly approached the couple who were attempting to get in their car, robbed them at gun point and then took off in their car, Zona detailed.

Thomas was released from the Florida Department of Corrections Taylor Correctional Institution in November 2012 after serving four years on a conviction of dealing in stolen property and two counts of burglary to an occupied dwelling. 

Thomas' criminal history also includes charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, marijuana possession, resisting , carrying a concealed firearm and loitering for the purposes of engaging in drug related activities.

A second robbery suspect is currently being sought. An investigation is ongoing.
