JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced an arrest in a September murder and arson case.

Jimmie Ray Jackson, 52, was arrested Thursday following an investigation into a burglary, arson and murder incident, according to JSO.

The incident Jackson is allegedly involved with occurred September 8 in the 1800 block of Spearing Street around 5:12 a.m.

Police responded to a structure fire where 61-year-old Cecil Hepler had been sleeping inside.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department retrieved Hepler from the burning home. At that time police said that he was in stable condition and was transported to University Health Hospital.

Hours later Hepler's health condition took a turn for the worse.

He later died at the hospital. Autopsy reports ruled the death a homicide.
