ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Neighbors in one St. Johns County subdivision say they woke up to find their Halloween decorations had been swiped from their lawns.
Police believe the thief hit at least four houses in World Golf Village over the weekend. They say the alleged suspect lives in the neighborhood and tried to sell the stolen items online.
"I think it's sad," said Nancy Smith. "We take pride in our houses. It's sad someone would come and take what isn't theirs."
For Smith and her family, Halloween is a huge deal. Singing pumpkins and aliens hanging out near her door step is something you'll find outside of her home every year. For them it's normal.
Police say one woman wasn't just looking for a thrill when she stole Halloween decorations from her neighbors lawns. They say she was down on her luck and thought that she could score some cash to pay bills by taking ghosts and goblins.
They say she was brazen enough to post photos of the stolen goods online. Some neighbors recognized their own decorations up for sale and called police.
Officers went to the woman's house and say they were able to recover most of the decorations.
Police tell FCN some of the victims who have been out of town still don't know their belongings have been stolen.
They're still looking into things, but say charges are ahead for the woman who confessed to being down on her luck and stealing from her neighbors.
