JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Businesses on University Boulevard are seeing sales again, that's because the Mathews Bridge re-opened Tuesday morning.
"I'm real excited," said Cecelia Moritz. She's been at the Donut Shoppe for about 10 years.
"Big, huge relief," she said.
The Mathews Bridge shut down for 33 days after a Navy ship hit it more than a month ago.
The closure forced the thousands of commuters who relied on the bridge to come up with a Plan B.
Many of them didn't include University Boulevard. That meant a lot of the businesses there suffered. Some took hits as hard as 50 percent. Moritz said the Donut Shoppe took a 20 percent hit.
"We're used to being so busy, even customers were like where's everybody at," Moritz said.
With the bridge back open, Moritz said things are already picking up. She's looking forward to being back at full speed.
"I think tomorrow should pick up quite a bit, and I think by Thursday we should be rolling again," she said.
