LAKE CITY , Fla. -- A fatal house fire in Lake City, Fla. that claimed the life of Lake City Police Officer Brandi Jackson appears to be an accident, according to a Columbia County Sheriff's Office press release.
The release said the preliminary investigation reveals nothing suspicious caused the house fire on SW Dante Terrace.
LCPD Investigator David Greear was woken by the fire and tried to extinguish it. The release says, Greear attempted to get Jackson, who was sleeping in the back of the home, out of the residence.
Greear and Jackson tried to make their way through the home and was separated when Jackson allegedly got disoriented.
The release said Greear made it out of the home and went to a neighbor to call for help. Greear and the neighbor allegedly attempted to reenter the home, but it was engulfed in flames.
After the fire was extinguished, the Columbia County Fire Department found Jackson deceased in the residence.
Funeral services for Brandi Jackson will be held at Christ Central Ministries located at 217 SW Dyal Avenue. A viewing is scheduled for November 4 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the funeral is Nov. 5 at 11 a.m.
