JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A boxer mix dog named 'Chance' is being treated for severe malnourishment after police found him and three dead animals inside two hotel rooms.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested 40-year-old Denise Jimenez and her daughter 21-year-old Seanty Jimenez on Friday on charges of animal cruelty.
The window of room 140 at the Super 8 Hotel off Youngerman Circle has several flies sticking to the glass, that's the room police say there were two dead dogs and a dead cat wrapped in plastic inside crates.
"They need to go clean that room that's what they need to do," said a man visiting friends staying at the hotel.
Guests at the hotel did not want to make comments, but one person said he could smell the decaying animals from outside the room. Others are hearing about it.
"That there was some dead dogs in there and I was like 'whoa that's crazy.'"
Police say the two women were staying in two rooms at the hotel for two months. The suspects told police the animals been dead for a couple of days and they didn't know what to do with the bodies. Officers say when they entered room 142 they saw a severely emaciated dog locked in the bathroom covered in feces and urine.
Animal Control rescued 2-year-old 'Chance.' He is a "1" on the body condition scale with no muscle mass and his ribs and bones clearly visible. Animal Care and Protective Services say he probably would not have lived much longer without intervention.
An employee stated that the managers of the hotel are out of town for a meeting. In the police report, the manager said the rooms are uninhabitable and need to be fully renovated at 10-thousand dollars per room.
