JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to reports of shots fired at the Villas at the Woodlands Apartments early Thursday morning.
The body of 36-year-old Royal Jerome Jackson was found near shell casings when police arrived at the 7200 block of Crane Avenue in Arlington around 4 a.m., according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Dan Janson.
While police were at that scene, they received reports of a male shooting victim who drove himself to Memorial Hospital. The victim is reportedly in stable condition.
Jackson was released from the Duval County Jail Thursday morning at 1:19 a.m., according to jail records, and was found dead about two hours later.
An investigation is underway and detectives are interviewing the victim at Memorial Hospital to determine his involvement in the incident.
The victim that drove himself to the hospital has not been identified
