JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Hundreds of First Coast residents lined up early Friday morning to secure one of 2500 free Thanksgiving meals that were given away at Everbank Field.
The official time to line up was at 7 a.m., but many people showed up well before then.
"As the economy goes, so goes needs around the holidays." said one organizer. "We're hearing many groups are seeing increases in need this year."
The meals were being distributed by Second Harvest of North Florida and Wells Fargo.
The meals consisted of a frozen turkey, canned vegetables, boxed potatoes, stuffing and bread.
The event was staffed primarily by volunteers. Residents were not asked to provide any documentation or identification.
The meals were first come, first served. Meal distribution began at 9 a.m.
