CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A man allegedly robbed the Larry's Subs located at Blanding Boulevard and Knight Boxx Saturday around 8:20 p.m., according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said the suspect went into Flash Foods at 4000 Everett Avenue in Middleburg and borrowed money from the store's clerk eight hours after he had allegedly robbed Larry's Subs.
On Sunday at 4 a.m., a CCSO supervisor stopped by Flash Foods and the clerk advised the supervisor that she had done her "good deed for the day" 30 minutes prior by allowing a man in an old truck to borrow three dollars for gas.
The clerk said the man left his wallet to prove that he would come back to return the money she loaned him, however, the clerk saw the man go in the opposite direction from where he said he lived on Blanding Boulevard, so she assumed she would never see him again.
Police said that the man who borrowed the money matched the description of the man who robbed Larry's Subs.
The CCSO was able to begin their search for the truck and the suspect with the ID he left behind.
The suspect was caught when he returned back to Flash Foods to payback the three dollars around 5:15 a.m. Sunday.
Police said if the clerk had not loaned the money to the suspect, the armed robbery at Larry's Subs may have gone unsolved.
